The world had never seen a war like this, and it wouldn’t again for a long time. Every hero and every villain were brought together by a single mysterious force to have at each other.
Who was this force? No one seemed to care except one Steve Rogers. He had no interest in fighting. He only wanted to reach a solution. Besides, we all know Steve doesn’t have many fond memories of war.
With his team separated and his shield shattered, Steve scaled one of New York’s many buildings, searching for the contraption that made home to its pinnacle. He felt like a coward, fleeing the battle on the streets below him, but he pressed on, fully aware that he was also being pursued.
After what felt like hours, he reached the top of the skyscraper, and that’s where he saw the machine he had only heard rumors about. Every source of superpower, whether it be used for good or evil, contained in one sole place, just before his eyes. A sickeningly green light washed over his face, followed by a bright orange, then a deep blue. The thing looked ready to burst, and there wasn’t anything Steve could do about it.
It was then that Loki burst onto the roof after him, prepared for a fight, but he too spotted the device before him and widened his eyes. “What in the name of Asgard is that?”
Steve didn’t have an answer. Instead, he turned, not to attack the villain, but to flee. “Run,” he advised, and Loki didn’t argue. They both headed for the stairwell, but they were too late.
There was an explosion, then all hell broke loose.
Earth has erupted into complete chaos after a war of epic proportions between every hero and villain ever known ensued. The explosion, induced by the containment of all sources of power, affected most inhabitants of the world. Suddenly, people who were average citizens yesterday are now power-wielding creatures. Major cities are demolished, the heroes we know and love are separated, and new superhumans are rising from the ruins of the world. In all the confusion, however, everyone is wondering one thing.
