August didn't know what to feel. Was he supposed to be happy, sad, excited, or nervous? Or a combination of everything? He couldn't make up his mind. At the moment, he was feeling a bit nervous, but mostly excited. He had always dreamed of becoming a marine biologist, and with his new power over water, his dream would be much easier to achieve.
However, it's normal for most people to be a little freaked out when they're suddenly granted superpowers. He worried about what his asshole of a father would say, or if the scientists of Freedom Tower, which had been hastily moving in since earlier that day, would want to dissect him for research. Plus, he wouldn't be able to use his new abilities efficiently for a while now. He discovered quickly that he had no idea what he was doing and even attempting to make a puddle quiver drained his energy rather quickly. He would need to practice.
Which is why he returned to Crandon Park Beach, the place where he was taking refuge at with a few other teens during the war that went down only the night before. The beach, once calm and peaceful, was now decorated with craters and flooded about once an hour. Currently, the tide was low, so August took the opportunity to get near the water. Clad in a pair of tattered, rolled up jeans and a gray tank-top, he jogged out to the ocean, carefully avoiding the ravines. Once he made it safely, he plopped himself down, legs crossed, and dug a hole in the moist sand. Ignoring the raging waters before him, he created his own miniature pond and got ready to focus. He concentrated on the water, and nothing else, trying to see if he'd be able to do anything. Several moments passed, and the water had done nothing but ripple a bit, but August knew he could do it. Finally, the strain on his head became too much and he let go of his focus, releasing a gasp full of relief. Now bearing a killer headache, August cursed under his breath, wondering when he'd be able to use his powers to their full potential.
